South Australia’s four-man pace attack dismissed Western Australia for 173 to leave their side with a gettable final-day score on the third day of their Sheffield Shield fixture at the WACA. The pair of Chadd Sayers and Joe Mennie combined to pick six wickets, Kane Richardson took two, while Daniel Worrall accounted for Jhye Richardson.Mennie was first to strike, having Cameron Bancroft, the first-innings double-centurion, caught-behind for 17. Barring Shaun Marsh, Bancroft’s opening partner, who struck a 77-ball 52, the rest of Western Australia’s batting failed to impress. Their allrounder Marcus Stoinis had to take leave as well to grieve the death of his father.Pacer Andrew Holder struck in South Australia’s chase of 325 when he bowled Johnathon Dalton for 29, ending an opening stand of 45. Jake Weatherfield was not out on 17 and had Joe Mennie, unbeaten on 8, for company at stumps. The day began with South Australia on 6 for 322 in their first innings. Wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey, who was unbeaten on 26 overnight, remained unbeaten on 46 to shore them up to 363. But South Australia had fallen well short of Western Australia’s first-innings total of 7 for 514, conceding a lead of 151. Richardson wiped out the tail in quick time to finish with 4 for 90.

Celtic Plotting Swoop To Sign £42k-p/w "Threat" For Rodgers

Celtic are plotting a summer swoop to sign Newcastle United forward Ryan Fraser, and a new report has revealed the club’s chances of bringing him to the Scottish Premiership.

Where was Ryan Fraser born?

Fraser was born in Aberdeen where he spent the early years of his career before moving to England to carry out spells at Bournemouth, Ipswich Town and finally Newcastle who he joined on a free transfer back in 2020, as per Transfermarkt, but despite having been at the club for three years, he could be on his way before the end of the ongoing window.

In the Premier League last season, the left-winger made just three starts and five substitute appearances across the whole of the campaign, via WhoScored, showing not only how out of favour he is but indicating that he may have to complete a move elsewhere should he want to receive more regular game time going forward.

The Scotland international still has another two years remaining on his contract in the northeast, so it mmay take some kind of fee to prise him away, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem for Brendan Rodgers who has set his sights on the attacker, though it’s not the first time he’s been linked with a switch to Parkhead.

Back in 2020, The Telegraph credited the Hoops with an interest in the 29-year-old before he finalised his move to St. James’ Park, so having already missed out on their target once, chiefs appear to be taking a second bite of the cherry in the hope of a more successful outcome this time around.

Are Celtic signing Ryan Fraser?

According to The Northern Echo, Celtic are “lining up a move” for Fraser in the final weeks of the window. The Glasgow outfit are “ready to make a formal approach” for the unwanted forward who has been “identified” by Rodgers as a “viable target” with the boss looking to bolster his ranks with another winger.

Newcastle are “unlikely to demand a significant transfer fee” because they want to get him off their books and wage bill having already demoted him to training with the development squad, not to mention that his number 21 shirt has been taken by their new signing Tino Livramento, so this is definitely one to keep a close eye on.

Newcastle United forward Ryan Fraser.

How much does Ryan Fraser earn?

At Newcastle, Fraser currently pockets £42k-per-week which he clearly isn’t earning considering that he’s been excluded from the first team fold, but he’s still got so much potential to offer so that could all change should he decide to put pen to paper at Celtic.

The Wasserman Client has posted 86 goal contributions (52 assists and 34 goals) since the start of his career which has previously seen him dubbed a “threat” to the opposition’s defence in the final third by journalist Josh Bunting, but he is also capable of playing in several other roles over the pitch.

Sponsored by Nike, Fraser is a versatile operator having been deployed in an incredible nine different positions since first bursting onto the professional scene, including three up top, four in the midfield and even two in defence, so for a player who really could cover every blade of grass should you ask him to adapt, he could be a fantastic bargain for Rodgers.

Man Utd Could Bin McTominay In Move For "Tremendous" Starlet

Manchester United will be looking to end the summer transfer window on a high by signing at least another one or two players.

Erik ten Hag has been eyeing a few defenders of late, yet with Harry Maguire not sealing a move to West Ham United, could the Dutchman perhaps turn his attention to signing another midfielder?

Who could Manchester United sign next?

Mason Mount has already arrived at Old Trafford in a bid to add some quality to their midfield area, but Ten Hag isn’t stopping there.

Reports have claimed that United have made enquiries for Bayern Munich starlet Ryan Gravenberch.

The youngster could be available for as little as €25m (£22m) following a tough start to life at Bayern since his move from Ajax in the summer of 2022, and this is a deal which could represent wonderful value for Ten Hag.

It could also give the Dutchman a licence to finally move on Scott McTominay, who clearly isn’t in his future plans.

Will Scott McTominay leave Manchester United?

The Scot did make 39 appearances across all competitions during 2022/23, however, only 16 of those were starts, including just ten in the Premier League.

Ten Hag told the midfielder that he was surplus to requirements at Old Trafford back in June amid interest from Newcastle United and West Ham, though he has yet to seal a move away from the Red Devils.

McTominay ranked in a lowly 20th position in the United squad in terms of average league performance last term (as per Sofascore).

Meanwhile, he failed to rank in the top ten for accurate passes, key passes or interceptions per game, suggesting that even when he did get a chance, he was not able to take his opportunity.

Gravenberch would be an ideal replacement for the 26-year-old, especially if he could recapture the form which saw him seal a move to Germany.

Despite starting just three Bundesliga matches for the German giants, the 21-year-old still ranked in the top 7% for shot-creating actions when compared to positional peers, while he also ranked in the top 25% for successful take-ons, progressive passes and progressive carries per 90, which is solid considering he averaged just 24 minutes of action per league match.

In contrast, McTominay failed to even rank in the top 35% for any of these metrics when compared to positional peers, and this certainly suggests that the young Dutchman is capable of showcasing his talent when given opportunities.

Ten Hag also knows all about Gravenberch having coached him during his spell at Ajax, with the Dutchman hailing him previously, saying:

“He's very important for our team because he's a box-to-box player. He accelerates out of positional play, does good dribbling, has tremendous passing ability and participates in the build-up play.

“Due to his athleticism and physique, he is also strong in the transition game and can also win the balls. He's come a long way, but can still learn a lot.”

For the aforementioned fee, the 53-year-old should be making Gravenberch a key priority before the end of the transfer window – and ditch McTominay in the process.

'Hathurusingha's departure at this time will hurt us'

BCB director Khaled Mahmud, who put forward Chandika Hathurusingha’s name for Bangladesh coach in 2014, says he was as surprised as anyone by the news of his resignation letter

Coach Chandika Hathurusingha’s resignation has taken Bangladesh cricket by complete surprise. His letter of resignation became public knowledge only on Thursday, nearly four weeks after he had actually sent the letter to the BCB.BCB director Khaled Mahmud, the former Bangladesh captain who had put forward Hathurusingha’s name at the time of his appointment in 2014, said that even he was taken aback by the news. Mahmud’s short trip to South Africa from October 12 to 16, it has been speculated, was an attempt by the BCB to pacify Hathurusingha soon after he had submitted his resignation letter, but Mahmud has denied such an attempt was made.”It came as a surprise to me,” Mahmud said. “I was in South Africa for five days. We didn’t have any such conversations. It is now uncertain whether he will be here. I heard that he has resigned, but I don’t know why. I have a great relationship working with him for the past two and a half years. But he didn’t tell me anything.”His phone was switched off last night. I think we will get in touch with him soon. He is a positive person. I am hoping we will find out what has happened, from him. Everything was going well despite our performance in the South Africa tour. We have an important series ahead of us – so his departure at this time will hurt us.”Faruque Ahmed, who resigned as chief selector in 2016 following the BCB’s decision to change the selection policy, said that Hathurusingha’s resignation wasn’t a professional move, given that Bangladesh were planning towards the 2019 World Cup. “I didn’t like the timing of his resignation,” Faruque said. “Success, criticism and the media are all part of the deal. You will get appreciation when the team is doing well and, similarly, you will get criticism when you are not doing well.”His handling of the resignation wasn’t professional. His contract ran till the 2019 World Cup, so he should have informed the board of his intentions. His contract made him one of the highest-paid coaches in world cricket, and he had added authority too.”Bangladesh had one bad series in the middle of considerable success. Someone with a strong personality like him wasn’t expected to leave in this manner, when the team didn’t have a good tour.”

England concern over WACA wet patches

Trevor Bayliss suggested the pitch could be “dangerous” after water crept under the covers in Perth overnight and delayed play on the final day

England were handed a potential Ashes lifeline after water crept under the covers in Perth overnight and delayed play on the final day. Some 28 overs were lost due to rain and then the groundstaff’s attempts to dry the pitch, before the fifth day finally got going at 1pm.The England coach, Trevor Bayliss, expressed concern that the water on the pitch could make batting “difficult and maybe even a little dangerous” and that, as things stood around the scheduled start time, it was “unacceptable” for play. Former Australia opener Simon Katich added on that the damp parts of the pitch were “like play dough” when he inspected them this morning, raising doubts as to whether it could be made fit.Australia’s coach Darren Lehmann, meanwhile, said the hosts would understandably take a different view about the conditions, given that they are six wickets away from regaining the Ashes. England, trailing by 127 runs, require at least a draw to ensure they travel to Melbourne with any hope of drawing the series. If Australia win in Perth, they will have an unassailable 3-0 lead.England’s hopes of securing that draw given an unexpected boost by a lengthy delay at the start of the fifth day – although the potential for erratic bounce won’t help their cause. Heavy overnight rain appeared to have caused water to leak under the covers affecting an area of the pitch roughly on a good length at the Lillee-Marsh end of the ground. The groundstaff used leaf blowers in an attempt to dry the area, though there was some concern from the English camp that such action could accelerate the deterioration of the pitch and cause the cracks that were apparent at that end to open and crumble. Briefly, the abandonment of the game was a possibility.”There has been leakage under the covers overnight,” umpire Chris Gaffaney said. “It’s really soft at the moment. It’s just a wait and see process.”The pitch has to be the same for both sides but, at the moment, we feel the pitch has been altered overnight.”The groundstaff’s efforts were also hampered by squalls of rain blowing across the ground at irregular intervals during the morning. There was no evidence of any hole in the covers or that they blew off overnight. Nor was there any suggestion that someone might have tampered with them. It could even prove that the moisture was caused by condensation or sweating – the tight covers were pulled over a slightly damp surface last night – though the degree of dampness on the pitch would seem to render that unlikely.Either way, the delay may well be an embarrassment to the WACA Ground management. This is the venue’s final Ashes Test, though other less high-profile matches, including Tests may still be staged here, and this incident is sure to cause some reflection on the quality of covers at the ground.

Leeds: Farke Could Sign "Flexible" £25k-p/w Tyler Adams Heir

Leeds United will have to act quickly if they are to get their miserable start to the season back on track, with several transfer targets that Daniel Farke must soon pull the trigger on…

Has Tyler Adams left Leeds United?

With a number of departures having left them threadbare and lacking quality, with three Championship games having now been played, the latest to jump ship was Tyler Adams, who seemingly was desperate to leave Elland Road.

Having seen his switch to Chelsea fall through, it took just days to engineer a new exit, instead opting for AFC Bournemouth in a £23m move.

Read the latest Leeds transfer news HERE…

This is just the latest vacancy made in Yorkshire which will need filling, but fortunately, a like-for-like replacement has emerged.

With the report in question having surfaced just last week, perhaps now marks the perfect time for Farke to reunite with an old face and bring Kenny McLean from Norwich City.

That is despite the 31-year-old machine still having two years left on his £25k-per-week deal.

How good is Kenny McLean?

An experienced veteran at this level, the Scotsman would more than make up for the energy they have lost in the engine room, whilst adding a wealth of knowledge when it comes to navigating the Championship.

After all, he does boast 180 appearances for the Canaries, having spent the bulk of his career in his homeland before joining.

kenny-mclean

A tireless defensively-minded gem, although far from as busy as Adams was last term, the presence of someone like McLean would help boost the entire squad after what has been a tough start to the new term – especially given how selfless he is with both his play style and personality, having recorded 1.2 interceptions, 1.4 tackles and 1.3 clearances per game last season in the second tier, via Sofascore.

This unsurprisingly led to an admirable 6.91 average rating, the sixth-highest among the Norwich squad.

Farke has even praised his exploits in the past, as a mainstay in both of his previous promotion successes earned at Carrow Road.

He noted back in 2018:

"Kenny is a player who is really flexible. He can play nearly each and every position in midfield – as a number ten, a number eight, a number six or as a winger who comes inside.

"He gives us various options, and is full of technical ability. He had a high passing quality and is able to score and assist."

Although Adams might have enjoyed a far more successful personal season, posting 3.7 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and one key pass per game in the Premier League last campaign, he certainly remains replaceable despite the pain his exit will undoubtedly cause.

Especially given that, in his prime, McLean posted figures that arguably surpassed these.

During the 2018/19 season, when Farke's aforementioned quote was uttered, he maintained a 7.29 average rating in the Championship, buoyed by nine goal contributions, an 82% pass accuracy, 1.1 key passes and 1.8 tackles per game, via Sofascore.

He was the quintessential all-around box-to-box midfielder, and should he recapture such form under his old boss once again, it would take no time at all for fans to move on from the departure of the USA international.
