Realizado e agradecido.Me firmar no profissional é o meu próximo objetivo aqui no Botafogo.

Carrots and sticks keep Srinivasan confident

The Supreme Court’s strictures on N Srinivasan and the BCCI elections don’t seem to have affected preparations within the board for Sunday’s annual general meeting, of which the elections are a part

The successor to Rajiv Shukla as IPL chairman is among the things to be decided at the AGM•AFP

The Supreme Court’s strictures on N Srinivasan and the BCCI elections don’t seem to have affected preparations within the board for Sunday’s annual general meeting, of which the elections are a part. Srinivasan’s own confident statement that he would attend the meeting and stand for re-election is mirrored in the business-as-usual attitude of his colleagues on the board, making any discussion on whether he should or should not contest irrelevant.Right now, there is serious business to be concluded: The distribution of the various board posts and similar rewards. The deadline to file nominations for all the nine posts – president, secretary, treasurer, joint secretary and five vice-presidents – ends at 4pm on Saturday, enabling all sorts of possible compromises for all the top posts. The corollary – the prospect of losing out on staging matches or landing plum tour assignments – is what is keeping the opposition in check. All the five incumbent vice-presidents, one from each zone, are set to be replaced, the final decisions regarding their replacements to be taken in the zonal unit meetings on Saturday morning. At the same time, once the likes of Jagmohan Dalmiya, Arun Jaitley, Rajiv Shukla and Anurag Thakur – key figures in the BCCI – check in to their hotel, the candidates for other key positions, including that of the IPL governing council chairman, will be zeroed in on.Despite the board seemingly divided in the aftermath of the IPL corruption scandal, it is unlikely that there will be an election for any of the top posts. Traditionally, once a president is elected unopposed in the BCCI, even the other office-bearers emerge as consensus candidates from his group of supporters. It would be interesting to see whether Sanjay Patel and Ravi Savant, who were appointed secretary and treasurer in June following the resignations of Sanjay Jagdale and Ajay Shirke, end up retaining their positions. With Srinivasan’s re-election in little doubt, the sole question concerns who will preside over the AGM. Similar to most of the AGMs, where the members usually request the senior-most member attending the meeting to preside, it is likely that Dalmiya, who has been running the board’s day-to-day affairs during Srinivasan’s “exile”, may chair the AGM.In a way, BCCI officials appear relieved that Srinivasan’s decision to step aside, in the wake of the IPL spot-fixing scandal that saw his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan arrested, has been vindicated. While questions were raised over whether the BCCI constitution allowed for the president to “step aside”, the Supreme Court’s directive will most probably mean the arrangement will prevail till the BCCI’s legal tussle with Cricket Association of Bihar ends.In any case, officials believe it will only be a matter of days before the case is resolved. The Supreme Court’s next hearing is on Monday, the day after the meeting.

Wolves chasing Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne

Wolves have not found the move to life under Bruno Lage a seamless transition but that’s not entirely the new manager’s fault.

The Old Gold had little room for manoeuvre in the transfer market and they’ve had to nurse star striker Raul Jimenez back to full health.

What’s the word?

Jimenez scored his first goal of the season last weekend but Wolves are still crying out for some extra help in the final third.

Trincao and Adama Traore are yet to find the net in the Premier League this season so it won’t be a surprise if Lage targets more attackers in 2022.

One player they appear to have their eye on is Italy star Lorenzo Insigne.

The 30-year-old helped defeat England in the final of the European Championships but now he could be on his way to the country he left so heartbroken.

That’s according to journalist Ekrem Konur who said the following on Monday morning: “Lorenzo Insigne has not yet responded positively to Napoli’s offers. Wolverhampton and Crystal Palace are closely monitoring Insigne’s condition.”

The attacker is currently rated at £43.2m via Transfermarkt but could be signed for free next summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal in Serie A.

Neto comparisons

Pedro Neto was by far the standout player at Wolves last season.

He finished as the club’s joint-top scorer on five strikes while he was also Nuno Santo’s chief creator with six assists to his name.

All of that led to the Portuguese winger earning Wolves’ Player of the Year award for his vibrant performances.

However, since he sustained a broken patella, the Old Gold have missed every ounce of his qualities quite significantly.

Trincao and Traore have been dazzling when one-on-one with a defender but they have struggled to provide the end product that Neto produces.

Insigne, however, could counterbalance this.

He might be heading towards the later stages of his career but he’s shown over a number of years how phenomenal he can be.

In the words of pundit Tony Cascarino, Insigne is “exceptional”, particularly when it comes to his work rate. That being said, the same assessment is correct when analysing his attacking numbers.

Last season, he was in mesmerising touch in front of goal, beating the ‘keeper on 19 occasions. On top of that, the Italian registered 11 assists.

Insigne is a creative marvel, someone who carved out 1.8 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per game in Serie A last term.

That’s incredibly similar to Neto, someone who provided goals and assists while completing two key passes and 2.1 dribbles a match.

If Wolves can prise him away from Italy on a free transfer, it would be wonderful business from Lage and co.

Topley's best spurs on Essex challenge

Essex find themselves in a commanding position at Chelmsford, having bowled Worcestershire out for 102, their lowest score of the season, thanks to a career-best 6 for 29 from Reece Topley

Essex find themselves in a commanding position at Chelmsford, having bowled Worcestershire out for 102 – their lowest score of the season, to date. That was thanks to 6 for 29 from Reece Topley, who responded to criticisms of his red-ball prowess with his career best figures. He was boisterous at stumps, talking up Essex’s promotion challenge after a first day that already sees them on the cusp of a first innings lead of 100. Trailing second-placed Northamptonshire by 44 points with a game in hand, they must feel that victory is essential here.Topley is certainly capable of spells faster than he produced today – not that he did not hurry those unlucky enough to face him – but he displayed impeccable control, as Essex systematically worked their way through Worcestershire’s consistent left-right combinations: a combination that occurred through circumstance rather than design, it must be said. His natural arc of the ball, starting from all of eight feet, cut naturally in to the right-hander and away from the left. But it was his variation of length that allowed him to reap the benefits of pushing the batsmen back as he enjoyed success with some superb full balls. Five of his six wickets came from pitched up, swinging deliveries that either found the outside edge, the pad – both in Jack Shantry’s case – or off-stump.He was gifted a wicket by Joe Leach, who failed to get on top of the bounce when he attempted to hook immediately after lunch, with Ryan ten Doeschate taking a routine catch at mid-wicket.His best delivery of the day brought only misfortune. Having removed Tom Fell the ball before, he produced the perfect outswinger to Ross Whiteley who couldn’t help but follow it. Owais Shah had to dive to his left at first slip, but it really should have been taken.Topley eventually got Whiteley for his sixth, as five Worcestershire wickets fell for just 13 runs. Alan Richardson and Dan Lucas combined to take the score into triple figures, before the innings was closed by a stupendous catch from Graham Napier at deep mid-on, Lucas slapping what looked to be a flat-six over his head, only for Napier to time a dive backwards to perfection, sticking his right-hand out to clutch the ball safely. In reply, Essex were one wicket down in the third over, as Nick Browne was bowled after defending a ball from Richardson which then spun back and hit off stump hard enough to dislodge the bail. But the Worcestershire attack could not build on that early good fortune, as Greg Smith came to the middle and quelled any potential resistance with an innings of high quality. He has played some fine knocks this year, in both the long and short forms of the game, and this must match any of them for fluency and clarity of shots. From a perfectly stable base, his drives echoed around Chelmsford, as a sizeable crowd enjoyed an evening session littered with boundaries. His approach eventually rubbed off on opener Jaik Mickelburgh, who went through the last 26 runs of his fifty with six fours, as they put on 158 in 33.2 overs together. And yet, it could have all been so much better for Essex had they not conspired to give away three wickets before the day was up.Mickelburgh top-edged to slip after trying to paddle Moeen Ali’s off spin around the corner, before Smith could not resist trying to clear Richardson at a three-quarters mid-on, to the same bowler.Shah can be forgiven for his demise; leaving a delivery from Richardson on a fifth stump line that jagged back in nastily and hitting him in front, having offered no shot. It was one of the few balls to do anything out of the ordinary.Ten Doeschate gave us a taster for what to expect tomorrow when he planted Ali down the ground for six and the smeared him to midwicket for four – in the last over of the day, no less. A convincing win with full batting and bowling points is well within reach, and is a necessity if Essex are to catch Northants for that second promotion spot.

Ndombele won’t be appreciated in PL

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has claimed Tanguy Ndombele will never ‘be appreciated’, despite his ‘fantastic’ ability with the ball.

The Lowdown: Back in Nuno plans

After failing to live up to the expectations of his 2019 move from Lyon and Ndombele’s unsuccessful attempt to leave Tottenham, the 24-year-old is now back in Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.

The midfielder missed the opening three Premier League games of the season after looking like he was out of favour under the new boss, but he played 62 minutes in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.

On his return to action, Ndombele completed 33 of his 37 passes (89%), won four of his eight ground duels and made three tackles.

The Latest: Neville’s Ndombele claim

Speaking on Sky Sports [via HITC] following the Chelsea defeat, Neville has claimed Ndombele simply may not fit as a Premier League player, despite praising his talent.

The former Manchester United full-back said: “I don’t know what you make of him. I don’t think anybody does. He’s one of those players that you watch and you think he’s a fantastic, technical football player.

“He takes the ball in difficult situations, he dribbles with it, he beats people. And then you sort of don’t see him then for maybe four minutes, six minutes, eight minutes and wonder where he is.

“I watch Ndombele and think there’s a lot of players like him in Spain, in Italy. Sometimes they fit those leagues better. I don’t think he’ll ever be appreciated fully over here because he doesn’t fit into a position or a type.”

The Verdict: Problem for Nuno

Ndombele has been included in Nuno’s squad for the previous three games now, including Thursday’s Europa Conference League draw with Rennes, meaning his chance to shine in N17 is now.

As Neville correctly points out though, most top managers in England, including Nuno, expect a lot from their players off the ball that Ndombele simply may not provide.

There is no question the Frenchman is extremely talented, but in rigid tactical systems is there a place for such an enigmatic player? Neville is not so sure, and neither are we.

In other news, this former Spurs boss has blasted Ndombele for this one thing during the Chelsea game. Find out more here.
