Been superb last few games: Liverpool fans appreciate Joel Matip’s contribution

[ad_pod ]

Joel Matip only started one of Liverpool’s first 14 matches of the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.

Indeed, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez were the preferred partnership at the heart of the defence, with Dejan Lovren also in the mix.

At that point, it did appear that it would be a real struggle for Matip to earn minutes during the 2018-19 season.

Injuries to both Gomez and Lovren opened the door for the 27-year-old, though, and he has not missed a single minute of Premier League football since returning from injury against Crystal Palace on January 19.

The Cameroon international is far from the most talented player in the Liverpool squad, but has performed a key role alongside the outstanding Van Dijk.

And the Merseyside club’s supporters are certainly appreciative of the job that he has undertaken since stepping into the side.

Don’t want him: Liverpool fans are against summer swoop for Richarlison

[ad_pod ]

According to UOL, via Sport Witness, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has recently met with the agent of Everton forward Richarlison.

Richarlison joined Everton from Watford in last summer’s transfer window.

And the 21-year-old is enjoying a strong season for the Toffees, finding the back of the net on 12 occasions in 30 Premier League appearances.

It would be some story if Liverpool actually made a move for the South American, but it is, at the moment, difficult to believe that anything concrete will happen.

The Liverpool fans have been on social media offering their views on the speculation.

And it would be fair to say that the majority are not interested in the deal.

The Reds could well move for a new attacker this summer to boost their options in the final third, but the club’s supporters are against Richarlison being that player.

Swansea fans react after club announce annual losses

[ad_pod ]

Swansea City fans have been reacting to the club’s financial losses after their annual accounts were published.

Swansea managed to make a loss of £3.2million despite being in the Premier League for the previous financial year and bringing in all the TV revenue that comes with the top flight.

Graham Potter’s side have underperformed in the second tier this season, currently sitting 14th in the table when they were expected to be challenging for promotion.

Swansea’s financial losses have caused concern amongst some members of the fanbase with their losses  likely to be even worse when the next reports come out as the club no longer have the income that accompanies Premier League teams.

The Swans have a huge wage budget due to players such as Andre Ayew and Wilfried Bony still being on the books and some fans are expecting further losses in future reports.

Fans on Twitter have become frustrated with their ownership after the most recent financial accounts were published. Here’s what Swansea fans have been saying on Twitter…

Rangers: It’s time to speculate to accumulate and show more ambition

With Rangers desperately trying bring back the days when the Scottish Premiership title was a two-horse race, Steven Gerrard’s comments dispelling hopes of buying on-loan winger show their is still some way to go.

Ryan Kent has been a sensation since his temporary switch to Ibrox from Liverpool, and Gers fans will be extremely disappointed were he not to return in some capacity next season.

So to hear Gerrard say the club will not be able to afford to buy the player outright, will be a bitter pill for fans to swallow.

With the fee Liverpool would demand — rumoured to be around £12 million — Gerrard is still hoping to bring the player back, albeit in another loan deal, but the ball is, very much, in the Merseyside club’s court.

Gerrard told the Scottish Sun: “I think it would unlikely be a permanent move. The numbers being spoken about, I’m out.

“I would be more confident about getting him back on a loan. If Liverpool wanted to sell him, that’s out of my hands. We’ll have to wait and see.

“There are a lot of boxes ticked with him being at Rangers. Liverpool know that, Ryan and his people know that and we certainly understand that.

“We have to make sure we have an offer for Ryan.

“Our supporters need to know I’m doing everything I can to make sure he is here next year because he is one of the people I want to build the team around.”

The club may be back in the upper echelons of the top tier table now, but after the problems that beset the club from past regimes, it seems that they are still a long way from being able to compete in the transfer market for the quality of player that would see them mount a realistic title challenge.

In modern football, £12m is not an enormous fee, but that Rangers are unable to fork out those amounts, while disappointing for fans to hear, means the club are trying to manage their budget in such a way to prevent repeating mistakes of the past.

But when it comes to as player like Kent, who Gerrard publicly said he wants to build a team around, surely there has to be some way of balancing the books and still be able to back the manager with, what he sees as, a key signing.

The opportunity to win the Premiership title, and the riches that a subsequent Champion’s League qualification could bring, would far outway the initial £12m outlay on Kent.

So maybe there should be some semblance of speculating to accumulate, rather than simply going through the motions year upon year, while watching your neighbours rack up trophy after trophy.

What do you think of the current financial situation at Ibrox, Rangers fans? Should they start to be more ambitious in the transfer market? Let us know…

Tottenham fans take to Twitter to slam Harry Kane

Tottenham fans didn’t have the best of times yesterday against Arsenal. The Lilywhites fell to a 1-1 draw at home to the Gunners at Wembley, and it could have been worse had Hugo Lloris not stepped up with a late penalty save. However, for the opening goal from Aaron Ramsey, the fans were far from pleased with Harry Kane’s sloppiness at the other end.

North London derbies are always massive games of football and the fans are always way more up for them than any other game. Harry Kane may have brought up a record yesterday when he bagged from the penalty spot, becoming the all-time leading goalscorer in North London derbies, however, before that the fans weren’t happy with their #10 for the way he lost the ball to start Arsenal’s counter-attack.

After Kane was caught in possession the Gunners sprung their trap. The ball found its way to Alexandre Lacazette who found a wonderful pass to Aaron Ramsey, despite a blunder from Davinson Sanchez, and from there the rest was history. It was far from a good goal to concede and the Lilywhites were very quick to jump on Harry Kane’s back for his areas.

The Lilywhites weren’t happy with Kane at all when they shipped the opening goal, yet the fans forgave him when he bagged from the spot.

Wolves star Roman Saiss being watched by Atletico Madrid

[ad_pod ]

Wolves star Roman Saiss is being scouted by Spanish giants Atletico Madrid as they weigh up a summer move for the midfielder, as reported by Lions de l’Atlas.

What’s the word, then?

Well, having struggled to break into Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting eleven at the beginning of the season, the Morocco international is starting to see a lot more game time as the season goes on.

Saiss started 37 games for the Midlands-based side last season on their way to becoming Championship winners, but has made just eight league starts in the current campaign after the arrivals of Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker.

Atletico have strong ties with super-agent Jorge Mendes, who is heavily involved at Wolves as his clients include boss Nuno himself, whilst the club’s Chinese owners have a stake in Mendes’ company – Diego Simeone’s side could potentially have a better chance at negotiations given Mendes’ involvement.

Will Wolves miss Saiss if he goes?

As aforementioned, the summer arrivals of Moutinho and Dendoncker have seen Saiss pushed down the pecking order. Whilst he is far from being surplus to requirements at Molineux, Nuno prefers to play a two-man central midfield pairing in a 3-4-2-1 system, so it is difficult to see where Saiss will get the game time he wants in the middle.

The former Angers star can also play at centre-back, and has done already this season in the absence of Willy Boly, so in that respect, Wolves will certainly miss such a versatile player who is a valuable utility man.

Having said that, Belgian international Dendoncker can also play at centre-back, so Saiss is not the only versatile midfielder at Nuno’s disposal.

It would be a shame for Wolves to lose one of their promotion heroes, but it would be especially hard for the 28-year-old to turn down a move to a Champions League club if a concrete offer did arrive.

Aston Villa fans respond to Jack Grealish tweet

[ad_pod ]

Jack Grealish has not played for Aston Villa since picking up a shin injury against West Bromwich Albion in December.

The midfielder has missed 13 straight Championship matches for Villa, the last of which was a 1-1 draw against Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

However, the 23-year-old has fuelled suggestions that he could be involved against Derby County this weekend by posting a tweet on social media.

Grealish, who has scored twice this season, has been back in training for some time, but was not deemed ready to face Stoke last time out.

The attacker could well return to action on Saturday, though, and a number of Villa fans responded to Grealish’s post by commenting on his potential return.

Villa cannot buy a win in the league at the moment and are running out of time as they bid to make a late push for the playoff positions.

The season Harry Kane really made his name at Tottenham

After scoring three goals in 10 Premier League appearances towards the end of 2013/14, the following campaign looked to be the perfect for Harry Kane to really make his mark in a Tottenham shirt – and he didn’t disappoint.

The centre-forward netted 21 times in 34 top-flight appearances in 2014/15, shining under the leadership of Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane.

In the Dugout above you can watch some of his best strikes across that year in two minutes and 15 seconds of some of the finest finishing you will see.

Hilariously obscure Premier League players – Can you name them all?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Kane may have been labelled as a one-season wonder by some after this particular season, but he has more than had the last laugh since with 181 goals in 278 games in total for the north London outfit.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs fans are seriously thrilled with a recent transfer link, with one supporter describing it as “perfect”…
