Hafeez agrees to BBL contract with Renegades

Mohammad Hafeez, the Pakistan allrounder, has agreed to a Big Bash League contract with the Melbourne Renegades. He will miss the first two games of the tournament due to international commitments with Pakistan in the UAE. This will be the first time he will play in the Australian T20 league, which begins on December 20.”I have agreed [to] a deal with Melbourne Renegades,” Hafeez told ESPNcricinfo. “Playing in Australia is always a tremendous experience and the opportunity will allow me to play around the best players. Since the 2015 World Cup will be in Australia, my stint will help me acquire ample acquaintance of Australian conditions.”Hafeez is currently Pakistan’s leading run scorer in T20Is with 1093 runs, and has led the Pakistan T20 squad since June 2012 to 12 victories out of 18 matches. He last toured Australia in 2005, and had a poor run averaging just 12.50 in six ODIs. He most recently featured for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the inaugural Caribbean Premier League.Hafeez was recently dropped from the Test squad for the South Africa series in the UAE, and is likely to miss out on the Tests against Sri Lanka in December. Hafeez is currently training ahead of his departure to the UAE for the limited-overs leg of the South Africa tour, which begins on October 30.

Topley's best spurs on Essex challenge

Essex find themselves in a commanding position at Chelmsford, having bowled Worcestershire out for 102, their lowest score of the season, thanks to a career-best 6 for 29 from Reece Topley

Essex find themselves in a commanding position at Chelmsford, having bowled Worcestershire out for 102 – their lowest score of the season, to date. That was thanks to 6 for 29 from Reece Topley, who responded to criticisms of his red-ball prowess with his career best figures. He was boisterous at stumps, talking up Essex’s promotion challenge after a first day that already sees them on the cusp of a first innings lead of 100. Trailing second-placed Northamptonshire by 44 points with a game in hand, they must feel that victory is essential here.Topley is certainly capable of spells faster than he produced today – not that he did not hurry those unlucky enough to face him – but he displayed impeccable control, as Essex systematically worked their way through Worcestershire’s consistent left-right combinations: a combination that occurred through circumstance rather than design, it must be said. His natural arc of the ball, starting from all of eight feet, cut naturally in to the right-hander and away from the left. But it was his variation of length that allowed him to reap the benefits of pushing the batsmen back as he enjoyed success with some superb full balls. Five of his six wickets came from pitched up, swinging deliveries that either found the outside edge, the pad – both in Jack Shantry’s case – or off-stump.He was gifted a wicket by Joe Leach, who failed to get on top of the bounce when he attempted to hook immediately after lunch, with Ryan ten Doeschate taking a routine catch at mid-wicket.His best delivery of the day brought only misfortune. Having removed Tom Fell the ball before, he produced the perfect outswinger to Ross Whiteley who couldn’t help but follow it. Owais Shah had to dive to his left at first slip, but it really should have been taken.Topley eventually got Whiteley for his sixth, as five Worcestershire wickets fell for just 13 runs. Alan Richardson and Dan Lucas combined to take the score into triple figures, before the innings was closed by a stupendous catch from Graham Napier at deep mid-on, Lucas slapping what looked to be a flat-six over his head, only for Napier to time a dive backwards to perfection, sticking his right-hand out to clutch the ball safely. In reply, Essex were one wicket down in the third over, as Nick Browne was bowled after defending a ball from Richardson which then spun back and hit off stump hard enough to dislodge the bail. But the Worcestershire attack could not build on that early good fortune, as Greg Smith came to the middle and quelled any potential resistance with an innings of high quality. He has played some fine knocks this year, in both the long and short forms of the game, and this must match any of them for fluency and clarity of shots. From a perfectly stable base, his drives echoed around Chelmsford, as a sizeable crowd enjoyed an evening session littered with boundaries. His approach eventually rubbed off on opener Jaik Mickelburgh, who went through the last 26 runs of his fifty with six fours, as they put on 158 in 33.2 overs together. And yet, it could have all been so much better for Essex had they not conspired to give away three wickets before the day was up.Mickelburgh top-edged to slip after trying to paddle Moeen Ali’s off spin around the corner, before Smith could not resist trying to clear Richardson at a three-quarters mid-on, to the same bowler.Shah can be forgiven for his demise; leaving a delivery from Richardson on a fifth stump line that jagged back in nastily and hitting him in front, having offered no shot. It was one of the few balls to do anything out of the ordinary.Ten Doeschate gave us a taster for what to expect tomorrow when he planted Ali down the ground for six and the smeared him to midwicket for four – in the last over of the day, no less. A convincing win with full batting and bowling points is well within reach, and is a necessity if Essex are to catch Northants for that second promotion spot.

Variation in pace works for Narine

Sunil Narine, who picked up four wickets to set up West Indies’ 37-run win against Pakistan in the second ODI, said that a variation in pace had helped him succeed

ESPNcricinfo staff17-Jul-2013Sunil Narine, who took four wickets to set up West Indies’ 37-run win against Pakistan in the second ODI in Guyana, said that a variation in pace had helped him succeed after a poor outing in the first match. Narine dismissed Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Hafeez, and took two more wickets to finish with his fourth four-wicket haul and his second best performance in ODIs, conceding 26 runs in ten overs.”I just bowled a little quicker because on this pitch some were staying low and some were bouncing, so it was not an easy pitch,” Narine said after the match. He said he had not yet regained full fitness after suffering a finger injury on his bowling hand during the tri-series game against India in Port-of-Spain. “My finger is 90% okay,” Narine said.West Indies captain Dwayne Bravo was happy with manner in which his team had responded to pressure coming in to the game and said that their pre-match strategies had worked well.”We lost the toss and were sent in to bat, which is something we wanted to do. I wanted a change,” Bravo said. “I wanted the batters to go in there and free themselves, and score without pressure; that change in momentum worked for us.”We lost Chris Gayle early, but the innings my younger brother (Darren Bravo) played with Johnson Charles laid the foundation for us. We know we bat very deep and we have a good lower order. It was not a 250-260 wicket. Our aim was to try and get 235. We knew we had the bowling attack to restrict Pakistan on that sort of wicket, which will play slow and low as the game progresses.”Bravo praised Charles, who kept wicket in the first two ODIs after Denesh Ramdin was dropped from the side. “With Johnson playing that role (wicketkeeper-batsman), it gave us an opportunity to lengthen our batting,” He said. “We know our batting has been a bit on the shaky side and inconsistent. Unfortunately, our best wicketkeeper Ramdin was out but he still has a big part to play in West Indies cricket and one-day cricket for us. But so far, Johnno has been doing a fantastic job.”Pakistan’s batting failed again and their captain Misbah-ul-Haq said that poor shot selection was a major factor for the loss.”It [target of 233] was a good total on this pitch. I got the feeling that it got slower and slower and it got turn, so credit to them, they bowled well,” Misbah said. “There was not much difference in the pitch between the innings, but I think they handled the bowlers better. For us, it was wrong shot selection and we kept losing wickets at the wrong time during the chase. We have been winning games while chasing – we won in South Africa that way – but today, we just played some bad shots.”With the series level at 1-1 and the next three games scheduled in St Lucia, Bravo said he expected a tougher contest because the conditions would favour both sides.”I expect three hard games in St Lucia,” Bravo said. “Hopefully, it will be a better batting wicket and the ball will come onto the bat, which will suit our batters. The conditions will suit both teams, as they are similar. I guess whichever team plays better on the day will win. I would encourage my team to stay focused.”

ويرتبط نيمار بإمكانية مغادرة صفوف باريس سان جيرمان، نهاية الموسم الحالي، رغم أن عقده مستمر حتى عام 2027.

Jahurul leads Rajshahi to tight win

Jahurul Islam’s unbeaten 49 guided Duronto Rajshahi to their fifth win in the competition, against Sylhet Royals, who lost their second game this season by five wickets in Mirpur

The Report by Mohammad Isam05-Feb-2013
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsJahurul Islam, with his third significant knock in a row, took Rajshahi to a final-over win•AFPJahurul Islam’s unbeaten 49 guided Duronto Rajshahi to their fifth win in the competition, beating Sylhet Royals, who remain top of the table despite the defeat.Tamim Iqbal’s absence, after he hurt his left hand while fielding, made the chase of 148 appear more impressive. After Charles Coventry and Dilshan Munaweera gave Rajshahi a positive start, they lost four wickets quickly, and Jahurul faced a familiar task of steadying the innings. After Jahurul and Ziaur Rahman were separated in the 15th over, Jahurul added 46 off 29 balls with Mukhtar Ali to reach the target in the final over. Mukhtar was given more of the strike and the aggressive allrounder made the most of his opportunities as he struck two sixes and a four in his 17-ball 29.This was Jahurul’s third match-winning knock in a row: he scored 57 and 38 not out against Barisal Burners and Rangpur Riders before this match. The Rajshahi bowlers had also contributed to the win, with left-arm spinner Monir Hossain and Munaweera taking two wickets each. After a strong second-wicket partnership between Paul Stirling and Mushfiqur Rahim, who added added 51 runs, the Royals lost their way as they went for too many attacking strokes.Ben Edmondson, Naeem Islam jnr and Mukhtar took a wicket each, and helped Rajshahi restrict their opponents to 147. The seamers had made scoring difficult by changing the pace of their deliveries on a slow wicket.Mushfiqur and Stirling, who scored 34 and 24 respectively, were the highest scorers for the Royals as none of their big-hitters down the order contributed much.

Bangladesh propose series against South Africa

Cricket South Africa (CSA) is considering a request from the Bangladesh board president Mustafa Kamal for South Africa to play Bangladesh in May

Cricket South Africa (CSA) is considering a request from the Bangladesh board president Mustafa Kamal for South Africa to play Bangladesh in May, CSA’s acting chief executive Jacques Faul has said. Kamal made a request to CSA president Willie Basson last week and offered to pay all the costs, whether the series takes place in Bangladesh or South Africa.”We have received the request and we are in the process of checking whether it would be possible,” Faul told ESPNcricinfo. “We’ve got nothing against it, it’s just about scheduling. At the moment, I can say it is a request we are looking at.”Faul will meet with the South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA) and national coach Gary Kirsten next week to discuss the possibility of playing the series. He said the decision will be based on South Africa’s schedule and whether this fixture can be included without causing fatigue. “We always want to play cricket and foster cricket but we’ve got to be careful with how much preparation and how much rest we give our team,” Faul said. “It is quite important how we pace the team.”Bangladesh have no international cricket scheduled before the World Twenty20 in September. Their trip to Pakistan, for an ODI and a T20 later this month, was put on hold after a court order placed a four-week embargo on the tour, and their visit to Zimbabwe in August was postponed because of work being done on the pitches in Harare and Bulawayo.By contrast, South Africa’s schedule is busy. Having already spent a month in New Zealand, they will go to England for more than two months in early July, head straight to Sri Lanka for the World T20, tour Australia in October and November and then host New Zealand during the home summer.Even if all parties agree the Bangladesh-South Africa series should go ahead, it will face a number of logistical problems. With the IPL only ending on May 27, South Africa could be without some of their key players. Twenty South African players, including limited-overs captain AB de Villiers and bowlers Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, are involved in the IPL. Bangladesh, though, only have two players in the competition – Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal.Another issue will be location. The matches are unlikely to be held in Bangladesh because of the heat in summer and Faul confirmed South Africa, where it will be winter in May, was the only possibility as a venue. “Winter will be a factor for sure,” Faul said. “Durban is a possible venue but the Highveld [Johannesburg and Centurion] will be out.” Cape Town, where in rains in winter, will also not be a possibility.Another option would be for the series to be held in Zimbabwe, who were approached by the BCB to participate in a tri-series with South Africa. While Zimbabwe Cricket officials could not be reached on Sunday for confirmation on whether they received the request and were considering it, cricket can be played there during their winter. They will host South Africa for five T20 matches, which have not been given international status, in June before maintenance work on their two main centres begins.Zimbabwe could also travel to South Africa for the proposed tri-series and Faul said CSA would welcome the idea. “We always try to help Zimbabwe, we have an obligation to them because we are closest to them and we try to look after them where we can.”

Fitness 'on track', says Zaheer

Zaheer Khan, the India seamer who returned to competitive cricket this week after an ankle surgery, has said he feels fit and his recovery is ahead of schedule

ESPNcricinfo staff03-Dec-2011Zaheer Khan, the India seamer who returned to competitive cricket this week after an ankle surgery, has said he feels fit and his recovery is ahead of schedule.”Physically, I am feeling fine,” Zaheer told . “Bowling-wise, I need to get the rhythm going. I am feeling a bit tired after the match [Mumbai v Orissa], which is a good thing because it means I have put in the effort.”It’s looking good, everything is on track, probably a week ahead of schedule. Everyone is happy, the physios are happy and I am also happy. The next game is crucial for me. After playing it, I will see how I feel.”Zaheer was out with injury between August and November. He had injured his right hamstring on the first day of the England-India Test series this summer, following which a recurring ankle injury forced him to have surgery. He was then provisionally selected for the tour of Australia, the condition being that he prove his fitness in the Ranji Trophy.Subsequently, he played Mumbai’s match against Orissa from November 29, bowling 22 overs in the match for four wickets. “Since I haven’t played a single game for four months, the main thing I was looking for was to get back in that environment, spending time on the field, as we have to in Test matches.”In that way this was perfect, I got to bowl a spell on the first day and then I again got to bowl 16 overs. So in one-and-a-half day I managed to bowl 22 overs, which is an exact simulation of a Test match.”Zaheer will play Mumbai’s next game, against Saurashtra from December 6. Some of India’s Test specialists are scheduled to leave early for Australia, to allow them extra time to acclimatise, but Zaheer said he had chosen to play the extra Ranji Trophy match. “I would prefer to play a match. That is what I have conveyed [to the BCCI].”
