Aston Villa remain interested in Celtic talisman Odsonne Edouard

Aston Villa’s summer spending spree isn’t finished just yet as Dean Smith looks to splash the cash for a second time.

Having brought in his old Brentford striker Ollie Watkins for £28m along with Lyon winger Bertrand Traore for £19m, it appears that the Villa chief is still after another attacker.

Wesley Moraes is still on the sidelines following a nasty ACL injury last season whilst the future of Mbwana Samatta is by no means certain with West Brom and Fenerbahce battling it out to clinch him on loan.

According to the Express & Star, Celtic’s leading talisman Odsonne Edouard is still very much a player on the shortlist of options but the Midlands outfit will need to make their move soon with the window closing in a little over two weeks time.

The 22-year-old is one of the most in-demand players in the United Kingdom at the minute with Everton, Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United also touted with interest.

Although Edouard could cost in excess of £40m, as per the Daily Mail.

The young French powerhouse bagged a whopping 27 goals and even provided 19 assists last season as the Bhoys clinched a ninth title in a row – and his red hot form has continued into this term having already scored five times.

Neil Lennon has given him high praise in the past, he believes Edouard is an “outstanding footballer, talismanic almost” and is also so talented” whilst former Hoops forward Andy Walker believes he’d be a “bargain” for “any of the big boys” in the Premier League.

It very much remains to be seen if Celtic would sell their key star this close to the end of the window, but it would be on Johan Lange and co to make an offer they simply can’t refuse.

For now, he remains north of the border.

Leeds ace Stuart Dallas put in a masterclass against Charlton

Talk about rounding off the campaign in style. After clinching automatic promotion last week, Leeds romped to a 4-0 victory over Charlton in their final Championship game of the season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were in celebratory mood at Elland Road, and delivered the kind of vintage attacking performance that has been the hallmark of their impressive campaign.

Goals from Ben White, Stuart Dallas, Tyler Roberts and Jamie Shackleton sealed a comprehensive victory for the Whites, but one man in particular proved once again why he is one of Bielsa’s personal favourites.

Is it Haaland Snr or David Hopkins? Your Leeds knowledge will be put to the test with this quiz…

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Dallas has been the ever-reliable figure in this Leeds starting eleven, playing numerous different positions, and never really letting the side down. He missed just the one Championship game all season, and played in five different roles, including both full-back positions and central midfield too.

It was no surprise that earlier this campaign, Bielsa waxed lyrical about the 29-year-old, saying: “It’s not usual to find a player like that. He can play on both sides, even if he’s right-footed. He has the agility of a winger and is powerful as a defender. Technically, he’s a complete player. He has enough aerial play to play on every level of the pitch. Even if he’s a player of the sides, when he has to play in the centre he doesn’t have problems.”

And against Charlton on Wednesday night, Dallas was every bit of the all-action star that Leeds have come to know and love.

As per Sofascore, aside from scoring his goal, the versatile ace had four attempts on goal, a 100% dribble success rate, 85 touches and provided four key passes. Not to mention the fact he also contributed defensively too, making one tackle and one interception a piece, and making three clearances.

Dallas is Leeds’ Swiss army knife, capable of doing multiple things very well. The kind of under-rated player that you can reliably build a side with, knowing you’ll get a consistent standard of performance from them week-in and week-out.

Spurs and Southampton agree deals for Hojbjerg and Walker-Peters

For quite some time now, transfer rumours have been circulating the media about Tottenham Hotspur’s reported interest in Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

And now, according to Sky Sports, Spurs and the Saints have agreed deals in principle that would see the 25-year-old Dane move to London and Kyle Walker-Peters go the other way.

The midfielder would reportedly arrive for a fee in the region of £15m while the young full-back would garner a £12 price tag. Of course, the 23-year-old had already spent the second part of the 2019/20 campaign with the Saints and this would effectively make that loan permanent.

But even though the deals seem to be quite close, Sky Sports state all the bonuses and payment structures are yet to be fully negotiated so there’s still more work to be done.

The biggest hurdles, however, are already out of the way as both players are keen to move to their respective new clubs. Everything indicates towards Jose Mourinho getting his man sooner rather than later and this is despite some reported interest from rivals Everton.

It’s also interesting to note that Spurs have been on Hojbjerg’s tail ever since January so this scoop could represent a major victory on the market for the London side.

Hojbjerg is perfect for Mourinho

Hojbjerg is a player that has a rather interesting profile. A forward in his younger days, now he acts as a defensive midfielder, sitting just in front of the back four. Mourinho certainly likes his defensive contribution as the Dane is a prolific ball-winner in that middle third of the pitch.

There is certainly quality in there and seeing how he can also be deployed as a defender, virtually all across the backline, Hojbjerg could indeed be a big transfer for Spurs and their road towards redemption in 2020/21.

Spurs fans react to links with ex-Arsenal man Steve Morrow

Following the departure of John McDermott, who left the club to join the Football Association, Tottenham are on the look-out for a new academy director.

And according to some reports, the man they may have their eyes set on, is someone who used to be connected with the Lilywhites’ bitter rivals, Arsenal.

The Daily Mail claim that former Gunners defender Steve Morrow is on the short-list at Spurs to succeed McDermott, having “developed a reputation as one of the best academy administrators in the country during his time at Arsenal”.

After hearing about their links to Morrow, Spurs fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the situation.

Some fans brought up Morrow’s history with rivals Arsenal as a big no-no, and why the club should steer well clear of appointing him.

Understandably, many Spurs supporters seem unimpressed by their club targeting someone who used to be on the books at Arsenal both as a player and as a member of the backroom staff.

When you’re trying to make sure that you’re well and truly out of the shadows of your local rivals, going after one of their former employees perhaps isn’t the best look.

But if he’s the individual with the best track record and resume, then perhaps Spurs should look past the obvious rivalry, and instead focus on how Morrow could actually simultaneously help them and come back to haunt Arsenal too.

Meanwhile, Spurs fans are absolutely buzzing with Harry Kane’s announcement.

Tottenham fans fume at shocking Daniel Levy report

Loads of Tottenham Hotspur fans are fuming after The Telegraph’s Twitter account relayed their own story saying Spurs chairman Daniel Levy told 550 staff that they were to be furloughed just 30 minutes before the official statement on Tuesday.

The announcement said that the non-playing staff would be partaking in the government’s 80% wage scheme for April and May, although the The Telegraph also report that employees have been encouraged to use their holiday allowance during this period.

The fact that the north London outfit are using the furlough scheme at all has to be seen as something of a surprise given their positive financial results and the fact that Levy received a £3m bonus on top of his £4m salary last year for his part in delivering the club’s new stadium.

Additionally, they were also ranked in eighth position in Deloitte’s 2020 football rich list.

Understandably given he isn’t the most popular figure at Tottenham, plenty of Spurs supporters are far from happy with the report saying staff were only told about their pay cuts half-an-hour being it was made public.

One fan said “Levy is sick”, while another described it as “despicable behaviour”.

Arsenal must not sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang even if it makes financial sense

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Real Madrid are interested in signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and are reportedly going to offer a cash-plus-player exchange deal, according to Spanish outlet El Desmarque.

What’s the word?

Aubameyang is a player in high demand and with his contract set to expire in June 2021 there are already clubs circling over a possible transfer at a bargain price.

Barcelona have emerged as one interested party but it seems that La Liga rivals Real Madrid may be in a better position, as they have reportedly readied a plan in order to make a move.

A fee of £70m is being rumoured along with the exchange of James Rodriguez, who has seen his role reduced in the last couple of years, joining Bayern Munich on loan last season and making only five starts this term.

The 28-year-old cost Los Blancos £71m back in 2014 which means the deal makes financial sense for the Gunners, whose £56m outlay on Aubameyang is being repaid by his 53 goals in 82 games.

Key to Arsenal

The Gunners have had a turbulent season so far and with no stability in place it would be a catastrophic move to let Aubameyang leave the club.

Arsenal’s captaincy issue has already reared its ugly head this season and now the Gabon international has the armband it is vital that his leadership is held onto.

He is already a talismanic figure for the team – his double against Norwich and overall goalscoring record evidences that – and he will be imperative to any new manager who takes over because of his influence on and off the pitch.

Making a £14m profit on a 30-year-old who has provided quality service seems a good return, but the wider impact it would have on the club combined with the negative message it would send means that the club must avoid the temptation of selling.

Alexandre Lacazette has scored just four goals this campaign and the expensive Nicolas Pepe is underperforming, so there are few options who would be able to replicate Aubameyang’s success, and any potential replacement would likely cost the club a great deal.

Spurs fans troll Sol Campbell after FA Cup exit

Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken great glee in trolling pantomime villain Sol Campbell after his Southend United side were knocked out of the FA Cup.

Southend, who play their football in League One, faced Dover Athletic in the first round on Sunday.

Dover are currently 12th in the National League but an 84th-minute strike from Ruel Sotiriou proved decisive as they booked their passage into the second round, much to the amusement of Spurs fans.

Tottenham supporters, of course, haven’t had much to cheer about this season and currently lie in the bottom half of the Premier League table, 11 points off the top four.

They have taken the opportunity, though, to indulge in a touch of schadenfreude at the expense of their former defender.

Campbell, of course, played for the club between 1992 and 2001 and captained the club to cement his status as a true fan’s favourite prior to a controversial move to Arsenal, for whom he won two Premier League titles.

The 45-year-old’s job at Southend is his second in management, having previously coached Macclesfield Town.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

Grady Diangana wants to spend the season at West Brom over West Ham

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Grady Diangana has his heart set on staying at West Bromwich Albion for the season, rather than returning to West Ham United, as reported by Football Insider.

What’s the story?

The 21-year-old has been excelling on loan at the Hawthorns, scoring 4 goals and assisting another 4 in 11 Championship starts and 3 substitute appearances.

He has impressed so much that there has been a debate about whether the Hammers should recall him during the winter window.

Manuel Pellegrini had initially ruled out the move, as he was quoted on West Ham’s official channels as saying: “I trust a lot in Grady, and I thought that it was better for him to go and play 40 games this year, and be absolutely ready for next season, than play here just some of the games.

“I think that we must continue supporting him, we must continue being happy with his performances, and he must finish his season where he is.”

Manuel Lanzini suffering from a fracture to his collarbone against Burnley appeared to reopen the door to a London Stadium return, though Diangana has seemingly closed it again.

Big call

This is a big call for Diangana to make, which shows plenty of decisiveness on his part.

If this has been relayed back to Pellegrini it will likely make up the West Ham manager’s mind for him.

The 21-year-old is clearly comfortable playing for Slaven Bilic’s side, which has come across in his performances, while it will be good experience for him to be fighting for promotion from the Championship, with West Brom currently top of the table.

Diangana would have been a useful option for the Hammers to have at their disposal for the second half of the campaign, but it is difficult to argue with the winger’s thinking, as he would have Felipe Anderson for competition at London Stadium.

It seems as though West Ham fans will need to wait until next season to see the academy graduate in claret and blue again.

Leeds fans discuss Lewie Coyle after incredible stats emerge

Leeds United fans on Twitter have been waxing lyrical about Lewie Coyle after a tweet revealed just how well his loan spell at Fleetwood Town was going.

To be fair, it looks as if he’s doing a stellar job in the north-west as he’s won two Player of the Year awards at the club.

The above tweet states that Coyle has six assists in 15 games this season, and while WhoScored and Transfermarkt both reckon he only has four, that’s an impressive tally for a right-back no matter which number you want to believe.

Fans on Twitter, of course, started to talk about the future he has at the club, and while it was strange to see supporters saying that a 24-year-old has a great future ahead of him, it’s hard to disagree with that sentiment.

Coyle hasn’t been given a real chance at Leeds, but his performances for Joey Barton’s side could be enough to convince Marcelo Bielsa to give him another shot.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying on Twitter…
